Dear friend of RYSE,
Formerly called BRYTE Summer Camp, RYSE (Refugee Youth Solidarity through Education) runs a literacy-focused, joy-filled summer day camp for K-12 refugee youth in Providence, RI. Check out our new website here!
We are excited to announce BIG changes in our little community.
We’re independent! After operating under a fiscal sponsor for the past decade, in September 2022 we officially incorporated as our own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization! We formed an incredible Board of Directors composed of 15 folks with deep experience with RYSE, including former campers and directors from the very first camp.
We're launching our Sustaining Membership Campaign! Camp RYSE would not be possible without our hundreds of alumni and other supporters over our past 10+ years of operating. We invite our supporters to become Sustaining Members and to give generously to our mission of empowering refugee youth and families. Recurring donations help us make long-term strategic plans from a place of abundance. One-time donations ensure camp will happen this summer. We welcome both with gratitude!
We're hiring! We have THREE opportunities for folks hoping to join the Camp RYSE family. All can be found here on our Jobs page!
We are looking to hire our very first full-time, year-round Executive Director, who will be instrumental in creating a vision for Camp RYSE's future, making that vision into a reality, and overseeing our amazing seasonal camp staff. We're looking for experienced, motivated, passionate people who feel that spearheading a summer day camp serving 100+ K-12 refugee youth would be a rewarding next step for their career. This is a hybrid position requiring residence in Rhode Island during the summers, with a strong preference for candidates who know Rhode Island well and are able to grow our local connections year-round. The position will pay $70,000 - $90,000/yr, commensurate with prior experience. Priority deadline 3/15/2023. Apply to be the Executive Director of Camp RYSE here.
We are excited to announce the launch of our Curriculum Committee! We are searching for 5 expert consultants who will work together to create two summers’ worth of robust, detailed curriculum for Camp RYSE that is aligned with our pedagogical values and is easily facilitated by college-aged camp counselors. The Curriculum Committee members will work together to create this curriculum by June 2023 and will receive a $1000 stipend each. People with prior experience teaching and/or creating curriculum are encouraged to apply! Deadline 4/1/2023. Apply to join the Curriculum Committee here
We are well on our way planning Camp 2023 and are hiring Senior Counselors! Typically college students or recent graduates, Senior Counselors manage a classroom of 8-12 refugee youth, facilitate pre-written literacy and math curriculum, help run afternoon activities, and generally create the magic of Camp RYSE. Senior Counselors will earn a stipend of $2700 and must be able to commit to full-time work from June 21-August 6, 2023. Deadline March 31, 2023. Apply to be a Senior Counselor at Camp RYSE here.
We hope you will give, apply, and spread this email far and wide with your networks. Thank you for your time and support!
Warmly,
Meghan Mozea & VyVy Trinh
Co-Chairs, RYSE Board of Directors
