Camp RYSE Strengthens Leadership Team with Appointment of Sunni Ryan as Executive Director

Camp RYSE, a transformative summer camp program for refugee youth, is excited to announce the appointment of Sunni Ryan as its new Executive Director. With a strong background in refugee educational programming and a deep commitment to supporting marginalized communities, Ryan is well-equipped to lead Camp RYSE towards greater success.

Ryan's expertise in refugee youth development was honed during her tenure as the Refugee Programming Coordinator at the Utah Refugee Services Office. There, she coordinated 12 annual programs, serving over 300 refugee clients, and developed 13 new initiatives based on the expressed needs of refugee communities. Sunni Ryan's leadership skills were evident as she managed a team of 120+ volunteers and oversaw program outcomes, curriculum, and grant administration.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to join an organization with such a valuable mission,” says Ryan, “I’ve gotten a real sense for the joy that Camp RYSE generates, and I’m eager to grow and develop the organization in a way that continues to strengthen its community impact.”

As the Executive Director, Sunni Ryan will drive Camp RYSE's strategic initiatives, program development, and community outreach efforts. With her experience and vision, she aims to expand the camp's impact, empowering more refugee youth to achieve their full potential. Her start date is June 1, 2023.

About Camp RYSE: Camp RYSE is an academic summer camp program in Providence, Rhode Island dedicated to empowering refugee youth and helping them succeed in school. Through hands-on, project-based learning and a supportive community, Camp RYSE addresses summer learning loss. Camp RYSE also employs many program alumni and provides pathways to meaningful careers for teenagers and young adults in the refugee community.
